Batley - Mount Pleasant
Heritage Road : WF17 7NZ
Mount Pleasant has been the home of Batley Cricket Club since 1880 and WG Grace played here in 1876. The cricket pitch was used as a grass track for bicycle races and in June 1882, the 5th annual festival in aid of the Batley Cottage Hospital was held which attracted a large crowd. Bicycle events were the usual 1 and 2 mile Open and Handicap races.

The Cottage Hospital meets took place through the 1880's and 1890's and the 1886 event attracted 250 competitors.

The 1903 Hospital Sports Athletic Festival event saw a record 10,000 spectators attend to watch the bicycle and running races. "The proceedings passed off without accident, the cycle track being voted one of the safest and fastest in the district." The Mayoress presented the prizes and Batley Old Band played a selection of music.
